Cynthia Henley Frewen Wuellner Moon (
@urbanverse), 100, died at her home on Tolopia, a floating city near the former Maldives Islands. For a quarter century, she designed new towns made entirely of junk for disappearing small island nations. After a rowdy parade through the city, her ashes were cast to the sea by six generations of family and friends. A wild beach party of singing, dancing, and feasting lasted three days.
Earlier in her life, Cindy founded an architecture firm in Kansas City and designed the downtown Davis Park and Civic Center, KC Zoo, Whittaker Courthouse interiors, Police HQ, City Hall Addition, fifty schools and numerous public housing developments. Among her awards, she was the first woman Fellow AIA in the region, first KC Woman Owned Business of the Year, Distinguished Alumna of the University of Kansas, and so on…
Of her ten books, five were listed as New York Times Bestsellers, three in urban futures and two in science fiction. After earning an MS in FS/forecasting from the University of Houston and a doctorate in communication studies from the University of Kansas, Cindy taught students from thirty-three countries, visited the Space Station and cycled across India. She loved puppies but only had one, Lexy, who never barked.

100 seems like such a nice age to live to. Scott Nearing, one of my heroes and the author (with wife Helen) of Living the Good Life, decided shortly after turning 100 that he’d lived long enough. He stopped eating and died a few days later.– AllisonPS Does one eat tilapia in Tolopia?

Wow! All of those names! I am also glad to know that there will still be a sea to throw ashes in (not permitted here on the Chesapeake Bay) when you are 100.

Allison, We’ll need celebration days in the tilapia’s honor! a parade, floats (on the float, ahem), a court of honor, the works. Sad to need a farm fish when yr surrounded by ocean, but there you have it.

Steve – nope Lex is long gone.. and once she died at a ripe old age, my husband said no more puppies. they are squirrely, no doubt, and total fun. Nearly fifty more years is a long damn time, who knows. might see Lexy 2 yet. heh. have no idea why that idea slipped into my fantasy obit. just random.
As for the 50 island nations, I do a lot of work in the Caribbean, and they’re all worried. I did a charrette in December in Mauritius, where the president is highly committed to sustainability for precisely the same reasons.Sorry about Lex! We were without dogs for several years, but as you may have noticed (see the flyleaf of the Original Green book) we now have Buddy, Tanner, and Sally, 3 miniature doxies.
I would move to a small island nation just to live in a town made of junk that you designed. But only if it’s rowdy…Also, I’m totally going to refer to you as Cindy Moon now. ; )

Sounds great on Islands! As for the pups, they’re great with us, but not so good with people they don’t know… sorry! Doxies are funny about that.
